Life in Banff Trail

Banff Trail sits northeast of Crowchild Trail and 16 Avenue NW, with Confederation Park to the north. The area became part of Calgary in 1910 and its community association formed in 1955. About 37% of homes were built before 1961 and 30% between 1961 and 1980, and 17% are newer than 2011, so you’ll find original bungalows beside new infills, semi-detached homes and duplexes.

Banff Trail station on the Red Line sits beside McMahon Stadium, home of the Calgary Stampeders and the 1988 Winter Olympics ceremonies. The University of Calgary, SAIT, the Foothills Medical Centre and the Alberta Children’s Hospital are all close, and William Aberhart High School and Banff Trail School are in the community.

Who Tends to Love It Here

Banff Trail tends to suit people who work or study at the university, SAIT or the Foothills hospital, investors looking at rental homes and infill lots, and buyers who want an inner-city CTrain station on the doorstep.

Nearby: Brentwood and Kensington. Buying your first home? See the first-time buyer programs.

CREB® didn’t publish community-level benchmarks for Banff Trail this month, so the closest official read comes from the City Centre district. These are CREB®’s published figures, not my estimates. If you want to know what homes on a particular street have actually sold for, ask me and I’ll pull the recent sales.

Frequently Asked Questions About Banff Trail

Have a question that isn’t here? Ask me and I’ll get back to you, usually the same day.

Yes. Banff Trail station on the Red Line is beside McMahon Stadium, connecting you to downtown one way and the University of Calgary the other.

CREB® doesn’t publish a Banff Trail-only number. The closest are the City Centre district benchmarks for October 2026: $992,500 for detached homes and $961,000 for semi-detached homes. New infills sell well above older bungalows, so ask me for recent sales.

It’s popular with renters because of the university, SAIT and the hospitals, and 58% of households rented in 2021. Check zoning, suite legality and parking rules before you buy for rental.

In northwest Calgary, bounded by 16 Avenue NW to the south, Crowchild Trail to the west, 19 Street and 18 Street NW to the east and Confederation Park to the north.

In October 2026, detached homes in the City Centre district had 3.52 months of supply and a 61.90% sales-to-new-listings ratio (CREB®). As a rough guide, under about 3 months of supply favours sellers, 3 to 4 months is balanced, and over about 4 months starts to favour buyers.

Banff Trail School and William Aberhart High School are in the community. Designated schools can change from year to year, so check the address with the CBE or the Calgary Catholic School District before you buy.
