Life in Thorncliffe

Thorncliffe sits in north Calgary between 14 Street NW and Deerfoot Trail, from McKnight Boulevard up to 64 Avenue. It was established in 1954 on the gentle lower slopes of Nose Hill, and some streets have views. About 34% of homes were built before 1961 and 57% between 1961 and 1980, so expect bungalows and bi-levels on mature lots, plus townhomes and semi-detached homes.

Nose Hill Park borders the community to the west, and the Nose Creek pathway runs along the east side. The Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association on Centre Street has an outdoor rink, a ball diamond and even a four-lane bowling alley. Centre Street buses, McKnight Boulevard and Deerfoot Trail connect you across the city.

Who Tends to Love It Here

Thorncliffe tends to suit families who want a mature lot near Nose Hill Park, first-time buyers looking for a bungalow or townhome close to the inner city, and investors looking at homes with suite potential.

Nearby in north Calgary: Huntington Hills, Highland Park and Beddington Heights. Buying your first home? See the first-time buyer programs.

Thorncliffe Real Estate Market

The benchmark prices below are CREB®’s own community-level figures for Thorncliffe wherever CREB® publishes one; any home type without enough sales this month uses the North district instead, and months of supply and the sales-to-new-listings ratio are district figures. These are CREB®’s published figures, not my estimates. If you want to know what homes on a particular street have actually sold for, ask me and I’ll pull the recent sales.

Frequently Asked Questions About Thorncliffe

Have a question that isn’t here? Ask me and I’ll get back to you, usually the same day.

Very close. Nose Hill Park borders the community to the west, so many homes are a short walk from its trails.

CREB®’s October 2026 benchmarks are $556,100 for detached homes (Thorncliffe) and $373,400 for row and townhouses (North district). Where CREB® doesn’t publish a Thorncliffe-only figure, I’ve used the district benchmark. I’m happy to pull recent sales for the homes you’re looking at.

Mostly bungalows and bi-levels from the 1950s to the 1970s, plus townhomes, semi-detached homes and some low-rise condos.

In north Calgary, bounded by 64 Avenue to the north, Deerfoot Trail to the east, McKnight Boulevard to the south and Nose Hill Park and 14 Street NW to the west.

In October 2026, detached homes in the North district had 3.75 months of supply and a 51.32% sales-to-new-listings ratio (CREB®). As a rough guide, under about 3 months of supply favours sellers, 3 to 4 months is balanced, and over about 4 months starts to favour buyers.

You’ll find the closest schools, with distances, in the What’s Nearby section above. Designated schools can change from year to year, so check the address with the CBE or the Calgary Catholic School District before you buy.
