Life in Legacy

Legacy sits at the far south end of the city, east of Macleod Trail and south of Stoney Trail, next to Walden. It’s one of Calgary’s newer communities: every home standing at the 2021 Census was built in 2011 or later, and more than two-thirds went up between 2016 and 2021.

There are more than 15 km of pathways, plus parks, playgrounds and ponds, and a growing commercial area with shops, restaurants and services. Macleod Trail and Stoney Trail are close for getting around the city.

Who Tends to Love It Here

Legacy tends to suit first-time buyers looking at a newer condo or townhouse, young families who want a new house with parks close by, and people who work in the south end.

Nearby in south Calgary: Pine Creek, Evergreen and Cranston. Buying your first home? See the first-time buyer programs.

Is Legacy Right for You?

What People Love

  • Newer homes: all built since 2011
  • A wide choice of condos, townhouses and houses
  • 15+ km of pathways, parks and ponds
  • Quick access to Macleod Trail and Stoney Trail

The Trade-offs

  • Still growing, so expect construction nearby
  • No CTrain station; it’s a long drive downtown from the south edge
  • Over a third of homes are low-rise condos, so check the fees and reserve fund before you buy

Who Lives in Legacy

About 8,000 people lived in Legacy at the 2021 Census, and it’s grown since then. 23% of residents were kids under 15 (18% citywide), and 6% were 65 or older (13% citywide).

The median household earned $105,000 before tax, against $98,000 for Calgary as a whole. 75% of households owned their home (69% citywide), and 36% of homes were low-rise apartments, with most of the rest single-detached and semi-detached houses.

Legacy Real Estate Market

The benchmark prices below are CREB®’s own community-level figures for Legacy wherever CREB® publishes one; any home type without enough sales this month uses the South district instead, and months of supply and the sales-to-new-listings ratio are district figures. These are CREB®’s published figures, not my estimates. If you want to know what homes on a particular street have actually sold for, ask me and I’ll pull the recent sales.

Frequently Asked Questions About Legacy

Have a question that isn’t here? Ask me and I’ll get back to you, usually the same day.

Yes. Every home standing at the 2021 Census was built in 2011 or later, and building is still going on.

CREB®’s October 2026 benchmark prices for Legacy are $286,200 for apartment condos and $679,600 for detached homes. I’m happy to pull recent sales for the homes you’re looking at.

In October 2026, detached homes in the South district had 3.07 months of supply and a 52.34% sales-to-new-listings ratio (CREB®). As a rough guide, under about 3 months of supply favours sellers, 3 to 4 months is balanced, and over about 4 months starts to favour buyers. Townhomes and condos can behave differently, so ask me for the numbers on the type of home you want.

No. The closest CTrain stations are on the Red Line along Macleod Trail to the north, such as Somerset-Bridlewood. Most people drive or take the bus.

For the parks, yes. There are more than 15 km of pathways, plus ponds and playgrounds. For errands, most people still drive.

You’ll find the closest schools, with distances, in the What’s Nearby section above. Designated schools can change from year to year, so check the address with the CBE or the Calgary Catholic School District before you buy.
